Wardray PremiseX-Ray Protective Observation Windows |
| Part of the Wardray Premise Total Radiation Shielding Package |
We manufacture X-Ray Protective Observation Windows to give full protection to the total structural opening.
Construction
TopWindow frames have a similar construction to those used for doors and are offered in hardwood for paint or polish finish and in profiles to match other frames. Alternative timbers are also available.
Frames are produced with any thickness of lead lining. The most popular being Code 4 (1.80mm), Code 5 (2.24mm) and Code 6 (2.65mm).
Lead glass is available in the stock selection of thicknesses listed opposite.
Although we are pleased to manufacture windows in any size, in view of the high cost of glass we are listing the sizes available from our bulk stocks offering the minimum amount of wastage.
| Structural Opening | Glass Size | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| 1100mm | 1100mm | 1000mm | 1000mm |
| 1100mm | 1300mm | 1000mm | 1200mm |
| 1100mm | 1900mm | 1000mm | 1800mm |
| 1100mm | 2100mm | 1000mm | 2000mm |
Non-standard sizes are available to special order. Please contact our sales office for further information.
Multiple windows can be produced with either leaded 'H' bars at the glass joints (example joints are shown in illustrations of our protective screens) or frames divided by leaded timber mullions (see top picture on right).
We also offer the option of adding sound attenuation properties.
To avoid the risk of breakage and injury during handling and installation, please note the weights of each piece of glass, detailed below.
The use of a specially designed wall saw enables us to cut X-Ray shielded glass from large bulk stocks in 4 thicknesses giving lead equivalents between 1.5mm Pb and 3.3mm Pb @ 150kV.
These are available up to a maximum sheet size of 2000mm x 1000mm but please refer to our table of weights below. Other lead glass up to 5mm lead equivalent is available to special order.
| Examples of Bulk Plate Sizes |
Weight kg per m2 |
|---|---|
| 5/6.5mm (1.5mm Pb) | 29kg | 7/8.5mm (2.1mm Pb) | 38kg | 8.5/10mm (2.5mm Pb) | 45kg | 11/13mm (3.3mm Pb) | 58kg |
If you are ordering glass for an area with code 5 (2.24mm Pb) lead protection, check with your Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA) is lead glass 7/8.5mm (2.1mm Pb) is sufficient.
To avoid the risk of breakage and injury during handling and installation, please note the overall weight of each piece of glass specified. Leaded ‘H’ bars or leaded timber mullions can be introduced to keep windows sizes to acceptable weights.
Fast deliveries available from our extensive stocks.
Cleaning and Maintenance
TopDo not use harsh abrasive cleaning chemicals or cleaning materials as these could damage the surface and leave scratch marks, which cannot be removed. Never allow any liquid cleaning materials to dry on the glass surfaces as this will leave water marks which will be very difficult to remove. Use only mild detergents.
We make the following recommendations:
- General cleaning for the removal of dust film etc. - use a soft cotton cloth together with isopropyl alcohol and clean in a smooth circular motion.
- Cleaning of difficult stains - use a mild detergent diluted with water to the manufacturer's recommendations and clean with a soft cotton cloth, and using a further soft cotton cloth, clean with isopropyl alcohol.
